They're trendy. They're highly stylised. They're self-consciously dated. All the ingredients for a band you'd like to dropkick out the window, right? Well, not exactly.
This could be Bon Jovi. Christ, it could even be Def Leppard at a push. But I don't hate it. In fact I'm rather drawn Paul Gautrey's lyrics of excess; his big-haired singing; the testosterone wails of guitar and the sing-along chorus. It reminds me of that time I taped Stiltskin off the charts as a child. Only cheesier.
The Glitterati are half as irritating as The Darkness ever were and far more musically credible to boot. Although Back In Power is neither big nor clever, and will certainly not herald the return of cock rock, it is a groupie-sized slice of fun, and a damn good excuse to sing into your hairbrush once again.
