Grip Like A Vice is the new single from the Brighton-based Go! Team, the first to be taken from their forthcoming second album, due for release at the end of the summer.
Undaunted by the task of having to follow up Thunder Lightning Strike, a debut album that was nominated for the Mercury Prize, Grip Like A Vice is full of the infectious energy that wowed the critics and the punters first time round. R&B, electro, funk and garage are thrown together to emerge fully-formed and ready for a dance.
Three years between albums may seem a tad too long, but the rest has served them well, giving them time to formulate their own future direction, rather than feel the weight of post-Mercury expectation hanging too heavily over them. The result is confident and assured.
If this wasn't enough already, they've even thrown in a Go! Teamed-up cover of Sonic Youth's Bull In The Heather on the B-side, along with a second song they've penned themselves, the more gentle and sunshine-tinged A Version Of Myself. Catch them across the country from now until September.
