God Love You For A Liar - Holding You Is Like Holding Water In My Hands (Nuisance)
UK release date: 22 October 2007
Oops. Someone's been listening to Wire a bit too much. Good job there's nothing all that wrong with that, especially when you throw in a bit of Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers for good measure, producing a decent bit of stomping dark pop entertainment in the process.
In fact, musically and vocally, God Love You For A Liar aren't too far away from early Suede, which is a very, very good thing indeed and a decent enough reason to forgive them for the fact that Britpop is so last decade.
They've taken the formula of celebrating picnics by the motorway and the beauty of the asphalt world and updated it (a bit) to the new century with some Strokes-esque guitars and Editors-esque bass. Track by track, things start to get better and better.
By the end of the EP, when they prove they can do acoustic tenderness as well, there's no doubt that GLYFAL are completely brilliant even though they do have a semi-rubbish name. As long as you like Suede and The Killers, that is. If you don't, you'll think they're rubbish, but you'll be wrong on all counts. More please.
