Hotly tipped Goldspot averted disaster when their Glastonbury set got hit by a power cut. Not wanting to let that deter them they jumped off the stage and carried on unplugged amongst the crowd, providing the muddy masses with one of those moments that can only ever happen on Worthy Farm. Soon enough the crowd were singing along to a rousing version of Friday, an anthem from their debut LP Tally Of The Yes Men .
Frontman Siddartha Khosla's Indian influence kicks this song off with some lovely Bollywood-esque strings but it quickly leads straight into a by numbers Keane-alike track. Not that there's anything wrong with that - this is good, solid, competent songwriting, but it lacks that extra oomph to make it a truly memorable anthem.
I can see how this has garnered plaudits from Radio 2 and Q magazine but it doesn't really leave me with that special Friday feeling. It's more of a midweek kind of vibe.
