Damon Albarn obviously didn't see Gorillaz as just something to mess around with inbetween recording Blur albums. The band's second album is on the way and Feel Good Inc is the first taster from it.
A burst of manic laughter opens the track, before a truly elastic bassline floats in. Albarn (sorry, 2D) sounds as wistful as ever, especially when the chorus takes the song off into a completely different direction. Just for good measure, rap veterans De La Soul throw in a rap contribution about 'gas masks' 'chocolate attacks' and most intriguingly of all 'chedder headers'.
Like all the best Gorillaz tracks, such as Clint Eastwood or Tomorrow Comes Today, this sounds like three different songs all brilliantly melded into one. Forget Crazy Frog - this is the only credible musical cartoon band around.
