They were kind enough to tide us over with the Inspiracion / Espiracion compilation in 2004, but nothing can quite match the prospect of brand new, hot-off-the-press GoTan Project material - their first major efforts since the award-winning, world-renowned La Revancha Del Tango.
Diferente is not, with all respect, a major departure for Philippe Cohen Solal, Christophe Mueller and Eduardo Makaroff: present and correct here we have the ultra-basic double bass line, piano chord strikes, accordian riffage and the vaguely trip-hop percussion. The trio's Argentine count is doubled by the presence of vocalist Cristina Vilallongo, whose Latino tones invoke perfectly the musical heritage of the South American peninsula.
Spoken word B-side Domingo is very much an update of the brilliant La Del Ruso, rendering the single hypnotic but familiar (not Diferente, then). That, however, is not a criticism: nobody else, it seems, can do GoTan as well as GoTan themselves.
