Space rock and lo-fi pop is how the Gravenhurst website describes their sound at the moment. I use the word 'their' advisedly, as it seems Nick Talbot's creation is becoming a full-blooded band, and on this evidence rocking out isn't something they're adversed to.
That's not to say Hollow Men turns it up to eleven and racks up the cheesy guitar solos - it's far more understated than that, and Talbot's brief verses are interjected by power riffing that heads round in a convincing circle, glancing at The Cure on its way round.
This ought to point first time listeners in the direction of the Western Lands album, as this music doesn't outstay its welcome, making a powerful statement in its brief appearance despite the paucity of vocals. Concise and all the more impressive for that.
