Ms Stefani obviously feels that there isn't a lot of filler on her Love Angel Music Baby album - Luxurious constitutes the fifth single to be taken from it. The rest of us might just start to feel a little bit differently about things, however. Luxurious is by no means a bad song, but it is pretty ordinary when compared to the songs that have preceded it.
Madonna is always cited as being very smart when it comes to reinvention, but Stefani is snapping at her heels as she moves from being a ska punk queen to pop diva - and now an R'n'B princess. Upon listening to Luxurious, with its chilled groove (courtesy of an Isley Brothers sample), it is almost impossible to imagine her fronting No Doubt on a bill with bands like Fishbone.
She's definitely come a long way, but you can't help but feel that she's stalling on new material. There must be something new up her sleeve by now. Still, you have to love someone whose lyrics use bling as an analogy for the richness of her love - even if those lyrics are tied to a pretty average song.
