Gym Class Heroes - Clothes Off (Fueled By Ramen/Atlantic)
UK release date: 20 August 2007
Following up Cupid's Chokehold (Breakfast In America) would pose most groups a challenge but not so for Gym Class Heroes as Clothes Off embraces the quartet's feel-good hip hop vibe. Sampling Jermaine Stewart's 1985 classic We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off this could well be this summer's floor-filler.
Although jazzing up an '80s beat is a tried and tested routine for summer jams (Twista's Sunshine and G-Unit's Hate It Or Love It to name but two) Clothes Off is altogether more infectious thanks to Travis McCoy's effortlessly rapid and delicate rapping.
While it doesn't quite have the same novelty value of Cupid's Chokehold, Clothes Off does have a touch of the tongue-in-cheek about it. It's ultimately a silly ditty albeit an expertly executed one. I doubt it'll enjoy as many sales as its predecessor but it should create twice the amount of smiles.
