It says on the sleeve of this record that it
'contains elements of Breakfast In America'. That's
putting it mildly - if your Feeling-sized ears can
stand it, this is Supertramp given a group hip hop
workover for the 21st century.
And while that may sound pretty hideous, it's
actually quite enjoyable, as the foursome add lyrics
of their own to respond to the opening 'take a look at
my girlfriend' couplet. This girlfriend "even cooks me
pancakes and Alka-Selzer when my tummy aches". Sweet -
and surely a definition of true love!
And so it goes on in the same vein, the group
half-rapping, half-singing odes to the girl in
question - and harnessing the same catchy chorus as punctuation. Surprisingly enjoyable - and will turn your girlfriend's initial hint of a raised palm to a soft-hearted smile.
