The Diary Fire is lifted from Half Cousin's intriguing debut album The Function Room, and will immediately reel you in with its hypnotic vocal refrain and beguiling sonic pictures.
The quartet hail from Orkney, and betray something of their heritage in a richly accented spoken word interlude at the center of the B-side Twin Silence. As before the sound picture undergoes a process of subtle change throughout, the two tracks bursting with invention and a degree of originality.
To complete an attractive package Ant Genn offers two remixes, taking The Diary Fire into hip hop territory, enhancing the bass and pointing the record towards the dancefloor. An off-kilter act that are well worth investigating.
