The Heavy sound like that monster that The Automatic were banging on about. For with their debut single, this West Country outfit have produced something huge, that stomps furiously, recklessly, but altogether addictively.
That Kind Of Man is built around a sizeable brass riff, funky guitar jangling and Swaby's soulful vocals. Now, I might be wrong, but I swear he sounds like Macy Gray. B-side, Coleen, further illustrates the weighty soul sound that The Heavy are aiming for, the song (again) using a brass riff as its centre point.
The Heavy's debut album, Great Vengeance & Furious Fire is scheduled for a November release. On the evidence of this it's definitely worth looking out for. Not least because The Heavy are doing something a little bit new, and a little bit exciting.
