Hell Is For Heroes - One Of Us (Captains Of Industry)

UK release date: 16 August 2004
Hell Is For Heroes - One Of Us
Band releases debut album. Goes Top 20 in the UK. Features in numerous rock critics' end of year lists. Band reconvene to record second album. Record label drops them. Go figure. Still, HIFH obviously adhere to the maxim of "what doesn't kill me makes me stronger" and they are not only ploughing on regardless, but releasing limited edition singles (2000 copies or free download) through the Captains Of Industry label co-run by vocalist Justin Schlosberg.

To be brutally honest, One Of Us doesn't sound particularly special on first spin. However, repeated listens gradually enable you to pick out its choice fruits, namely jerky, almost looped guitar riffs and Schlosberg's urgent vocals emoting a deceptively memorable melody.

Okay, so it's not up there with the anthemic likes of You Drove Me To It or I Can Climb Mountains, but one can't help feeling that it won't be long before one of the country's better young rock bands has made certain record company execs look very silly indeed.
