Her Space Holiday - A Match Made In Texas (Wichita)
UK release date: 12 September 2005
It's not very gentlemanly to kick someone when they are down. Poor Marc
Bianchi. The main man in Her Space Holiday was recently bitten by a rather
nasty spider. The poisonous wee beastie bit him at the Summer Sonic Festival in
Japan. The bite was so nasty that it left him on a drip in hospital and could
have been fatal. As a result he has been forced to cancel some European dates
in support of this single and the forthcoming LP The Past Presents The
Future.
Although I have sympathy for him (I am no spider fan myself), my sympathy does
not extend to this poorly executed Beck copy. You know the type of thing.
Lazy proto hip-hop beats, indie guitars and white sliced vocals. It's
Donovan to Beck's Bob Dylan. It ambles slowly along without lodging
itself anywhere in my mind.
Things improve with the Street Price remix of the lead track. The bass is
tweaked to become a sleazy strut, the kick drums roughed up with sandpaper. It
sounds a little grittier, more dirty, more rock and roll. Maybe the enforced break will spark a rethink and Bianchi will return with
something with bigger bite.
