Although the contrived title doesn't bode well, this track is a
decent slice of hip hop; a weird, melodic loop supplying the backing for
guest rapper Jean Grae.
Grae has an interesting vocal style, bordering on laziness but with her
full tone dominating the sound picture. Disconcertingly, copies of her
voice come at you from various parts of the sonic horizon, doubling up on
syllables and phrases. Unfortunately, there's no real melodic hook to grab
hold of, and so as a single release the feeling is one that the Herbaliser would
have done better to release one of their full-on pieces of funk. As if to
emphasise this, Gadget Funk appears as a B-side.
On a remix tip are the Platinum Pied Pipers, supplying an off-kilter beat to their dreamy loop, which to my ears noticeably improves the
substance of the track.
