Finnish band HIM are celebrating their tenth anniversary with a tour, the release of a greatest hits album earlier this year and now a limited edition single of the title track, And Love Said No.
It's a curious mixture of crooning and metal, perfectly illustrating HIM's brand of music and the term they coined, love metal. Guitar riffs and heavy drum beats are interspersed with melodic passages during which Valle Valo's soulful voice wails, moans and generally gets worked up about life, love, the whole messy business.
The sound doesn't live up to Valo's vampiric looks (HIM: His Infernal Majesty) - but the crashing choruses are satisfying enough. Definitely one for those who like their goths light, though.
