The Hives, along with The White Stripes and The Strokes, are bringing back basic guitar riffs into pop music. The album, Your New Favourite Band, has sold rather well, and people have been pogo-ing at their gigs, to understate wildly.

Main Offender, taken from said album, starts off as if it was to become Blur's Parklife before dashing off into yowls and abrasive rock'n'roll guitars. Like most of their album, it rocks - and then some.

Whether we can stand a second album of the same hi-NRG music from this bunch of Swedes is far from clear, but right now they're enjoying the view from the crest of a wave while we enjoy them.
