Hot Hot Heat's last big hit single was Bandages during the Iraq War, banned by the BBC on the grounds that, erm, injured soldiers may be wearing bandages. Luckily, there's no grounds for misinterpretation with this song which deserves to be just as big for the Canadian boys.
Cramming in more energy than a shot of expresso could muster, Goodnight Goodnight skates along furiously in just over two minutes, packing in Steve Bays' Elvis Costello-like vocals, whirling guitars, a rush of a chorus and biting lyrics that bid farewell to a former lover.
While the album Elevator can become wearying if you're not in the right mood for it, with its relentlessly upbeat nature threatening to overpower at times, this single is the perfect way to be introduced to Hot Hot Heat.
