With The Long Blondes not getting the rewards from all the critical applause that came their way last year, there might still be a gap in the market for a girl-fronted indie guitar band. Unfortunately on the basis of this single, this five piece from Aberystwyth aren't stepping up to the challenge yet.

Kicking off with a wickedly sexy bassline and some crunching guitar, the lead single from their forthcoming second album starts off so well. If only they'd found a better song to put over it. Becky Newman's vocals are pitched somewhere between Chrissie Hynde and Sonya Aurora Madan, and as such are both tuneful and slightly grating. Similarly it's not that it's a bad song. It's just quite annoying.

So that gap remains, and there's a lot of success out there just waiting to be exploited by the band that gets it right.
