Hothouse Flowers - Your Love Goes On (Rubyworks)
UK release date: 1 March 2004
Hothouse Flowers - Your Love Goes On
Your Love Goes On is the first single from Into Your Heart, the first new album from Hothouse Flowers since 1997. In the meantime the individual members of the band have been working with a vast diversity of bands and solo artists - from Def Leppard to Carly Simon - and I can't help but think that this might explain blandness of this release.

There's a late '60s West Coast feel to it, especially when vocalist Liam O'Maonlai slips into falsetto over mellow guitars, but the Dublin Gospel Choir backing doesn't seem to fit - the result is neither fish, flesh nor fowl. Guitarist Fiachna O'Braonain says: "...Your Love Goes On is the most raw, soulful record we have ever done." Hmm.

The high spot is a charming trumpet solo, after which the chorus, just - well - goes on... and on. Pleasant enough stuff, but soulful? Not in my book.
