Deadman is immediately arresting. The opening title track is a multi layered, instrumentally intelligent, and quite simply beautiful indie-folk song. With mesmerising string arrangements and clever rhythmic elements the song is darkly enchanting.
Unfortunately apart from the title track Deadman is fairly average folk pop. The songs feel too long and drawn out and do not share half of the addictive qualities of the opener. Lose Yourself sounds like a songwriter clutching at straws, while The Last Ballad fails to engage.
Respite comes in These Days where the string arrangement is close to breathtaking, but this EP sounds like all the creative juices were squelched into the title track, which is undeniably the star of the show, and most definitely worth a listen.
