Ian Brown's latest offering features strings, cool, modish drum beats, fancy bass work and... no tune or lyrics to speak of.

The former Stone Roses front man seems to have been grappling with direction since his debut album Unfinished Monkey Business. The home-produced vibe of that record is nowhere to be found here, exchanged instead for competent production, but the angst-ridden bile has also given way to something more akin to music by numbers.

Whispers starts, chugs along - and really fails to go anywhere.
