The Icarus Line - Party The Baby Off (V2)

UK release date: 19 April 2004
The Icarus Line - Party The Baby Off
The Icarus Line have a lot to live up to, especially when one of Britain's best selling rock magazines exclaims that the five-piece group are "total genius". Such comments can ruin a band and destroy its wishes to not sell out.

The Icarus Line, however, manage to avoid this simply because they don't give a f**k. Taken from the new album, Penance Soirée, Party The Baby Off is magnificent. Messy rock full of imperfections, Aaron North and Alvin DeGuzman's scratching guitars create a sound reminiscent of a live gig in a shady bar rather than a pristine, over-produced one as people would come to expect.

The greatest thing about The Icarus Line, though, is their inability or refusal to be pigeonholed. While Party the baby off is similar to Placebo, bonus tracks, Hit It And Quit It and Speed Sick could be compared to the Libertines and in the case of the former, Audioslave. Joe Cardemone's gravelly and almost drunken vocals add to a sound that ultimately defines the struggles of underground rock. With two bonus tracks, this CD is not one to be missed.
