Far be it for Ida Maria to write your typical 'boy meets girl, boy dumps girl' song. Stella may have a rather mundane title, but actually concerns God falling for a 43 year old prostitute promising to give her world if she spends a night with Him.
So just hope that the fundamentalist Christians who complained about Jerry Springer The Opera never get to hear it, or the 22 year old Norwegian could get into a whole heap of trouble. Her first single on a major label (after self-releasing her first two singles on her own label) is a gritty slice of garage rock, with Ida herself sounding remarkably like the woefully underrated Leona Naess at times.
Of course, the lyrics are intriguing, but it's Ida's voice that really impresses, a 'proper' rock vocal which ends up sounding hoarse by the time the song ends. The only criticism could be that these studio recordings lack the frenetic energy that her demos and live performance have in spades. That'll come in time though - you should be hearing a lot more of Ida Maria soon enough.
