Those who've been with the Infadels for the long haul will know their style has altered considerably since the wiry dance rhythms of early tracks such as Leave Your Body.
That's not to say it's become worse, mind - just more radio-centred. We had the storming Make Mistakes a couple of months ago, which introduced them to the Radio 1 listeners, and now we have Free Things For Poor People, whose faint protest vibe and communal chorus could easily be sung lustily toward the end of a night.
Bnann's vocals continue to set the band apart, the loping groove perhaps not rhythmic enough but evidently up to the task of powering what is sure to be a second hit from the forthcoming album Universe In Reverse. As long as there's still evidence of their roots, hopefully the Infadels will catch on this time round - such a victory would be fully deserved.
