Interpol - Slow Hands (Matador)

UK release date: 13 September 2004
Interpol - Slow Hands
It's as you were for the broody New Yorkers as they return to the spotlight with the first single to be lifted from their forthcoming Antics album. With much of this year low key, Interpol's return has a Franz Ferdinand pastiche to it, with awkward hooks, unfolding melodies and an exploding chorus. Paul Banks' unmistakable vocals keep things in check, peppering the regulation sinister feel, which is complemented well by some ghostly synths.

Banks and co are remaining coy about their new opus, with a pair of decent electro remixes saddled on as B-sides. Britt Daniel's stripped down take particularly stands out, funking things up in a !!! sort of way - improbable, but true.

While they rarely seem to show it, Slow Hands provides good reason for Interpol (and their fans) to be optimistic about the future.
