Shouty guitar noise from blokes who can't really sing - that's the ticket. Vocals throughout Take This Heart are traded between Nic Armstrong and Glynn Wedgewood and there's something endearing about the way that one of them seems so determined to keep trying to hit the high notes when he so obviously can't.
They come endorsed by Oasis, with whom they've toured, and you can definitely hear traces of unreconstructed lad rock tinged with The Beatles in there, like Kasabian if they'd listened to too much Springsteen for a weekend. Overall though, Take This Heart is American MOR which probably likes to think it's got stadiums ahead of it and probably hasn't, though you can see how they'd be good on a hot afternoon at SXSW in the 3.00pm slot. The guitar solos go on a bit too long, and the drum rolls over it are a bit unnecessary but overall it's pretty listenable.
B-side Won't Be Fooled, is much better, more swirly and a bit like The Eagles in places. Debut album If We Can't Escape My Pretty is out at the end of the month and until then, they're definitely worth the benefit of the doubt.
