The Izzys - Dreaming (Kanine)
release date: 15 November 2004
The Izzys - Dreaming

Another day, another "The" band. Another "The" band, another group of musicians peddling retro rock that sounds as if the protagonists don't own a record created later than 1973.

The Izzys may have a reputation for Straddlin' country, rockabilly and garage rock, but there's precious little evidence of it on this, their first single. Dreaming is the best impression of The Rolling Stones since Bobbie Gillespie & co did Rocks, with a wistful guitar motif that recalls Gimme Shelter and some "wooh-oohs" that do their best to conjure Sympathy For The Devil.

As if that's not enough karaoke, Mary Lee adds in hand claps, tambourine and some honky tonk guitar, that screams, yes, Honky Tonky Woman, before A Place In The Sun rounds things off in distinctly average fashion by sounding like The Faces, but minus the good-time, bar-room vibe. It seems that The Izzys have a way to go yet before they become "The" business...
