It must be hard to shine bright in a town famed for its illuminations, sticks of rock and kiss-me-quick hats but Blackpool's Jack Cooper does exactly that. In Turn The Light Off EP new kid Cooper shows he's biting on the heels of fellow North West singer/songwriter Badly Drawn Boy and demonstrates snatches of Brian Wilson quirkiness with a collection of jaunty, all the fun-of-the-fair songs.
First track Turn The Light Off is a cheery slab of sun-drenched loveliness more reminiscent of West Coast USA than drizzly Blackpool, with a melody that bounces along with cheery splendour while Sleepsleepsleep and Hope I Don't Cry deliver with such expectant exuberance they're impossible to dislike.
Former deckchair attendant shows you don't have to stick to rock to be a successful Blackpool export.
