It's always nice to be pleasantly surprised, especially in this business where even the pessimists tend to end up being disappointed. Fortunately once in a while something so special comes along that it just blows everything else to one side and shows the world what music should be like.
Savoretti is currently being showered with praise by all and sundry within the music industry, and quite rightly so. There are so many guitar wielding singer-songwriters around that we've become pretty much oblivious to the fact that most of them are at best second rate. Not so with this guy, with a voice that is both sinuous and husky and highly emotive, his lyrics touch that part of you most artists would kill to be able to hit.
Comparisons to Nick Drake and Damien Rice abound, and Savoretti is certainly up there with the best of them. Dreamers, his second single, oozes such smooth simplicity that it's almost hypnotically compelling to listen to and obvious to all why he was signed on the spot.
Soon to be heard supporting Corrine Bailey Rae on tour, and already top of the Radio 2 playlist we can definitely expect to be hearing a lot more from him. If this is anything to go by, the album is going to be one to pre-order.
