Soldier-turned-singer/songwriter James Blunt's popularity is on the up. Radio 2 has been backing the fledgling like a supportive parent (it certainly helped Lucie Silvas, Jamie Cullum, etc.), whilst his talents are also being increasingly hailed via word-of-mouth. Wisemen, the second single off Blunt's debut album Back To Bedlam, will no doubt cause more tongue wagging. Here's why...
The song is unequivocally beautiful: Hammond organ, gentle guitar picking and Blunt's delicious voice - a mixture of Kelly Jones' grit and Kristian Leontiou's satiny smooth vocals (In fact, 'Wisemen' sails the same seas as Mr. Leontiou - though in a yacht, compared to a small sailboat). Add to that a chorus that'll be on repeat in your nut for days and you've got a mighty fine song.
With many contenders fighting for the mature pop top-spot obtained by Damien Rice last year, it would not be surprising to see Blunt on the podium. Good luck to him.
