A string of excellent singles, some eye-catching live performances (including one at the prestigious BBC Electric Proms) and a debut album all set to be released - will 2007 be the year that Wimbledon's finest export since Great Uncle Bulgaria finally go stellar?
Calm Down Dearest, while not being as upbeat and infectious as previous singles Sheila and If You've Got The Money, is a woozy, boozy tale of a night out on the lash. Jamie even adopts a drunken drawl for most of the song, which could put off the uninitiated, but perfectly suits the charmingly shambolic air.
The lyrics are, as ever, a mix of the poetic and the surreal ("Sit down in the corner, man, I'll soak my fuckin' socks off" for example), and it whets the appetite perfectly for that debut album later this month. Get into him now before your friends do.
