No, So Excited is not a Nipplegate parody, and it has nothing to do with The Pointer Sisters. Too bad, since Janet Jackson could really benefit from a little bit of imagination.
After a chain of "musical malfunctions", Ms. Jackson takes another stab at trying to convince us of her unrelenting nastiness with So Excited. The track is unsurprisingly grimy and oversexed. Janet pants, moans and whimpers in typical fashion. The lyrics are nothing to write home about, unless of course you live in a bordello. Notwithstanding the fact that So Excited is really just a bog standard dance track, the production is quite good. Uptempo and modern, it has all the makings of a club hit. The video will also undoubtedly be a treat to watch.
However, So Excited is a far cry from the career-redefining track Ms. Jackson has been hoping for since Nipplegate. In essence, it is a passive extension of All Nite (Don't Stop). Janet fans will eat it up, while the casual listener will continue to query how a shielded nipple caused so much uproar.
