Maybe it's the last dying moments of winter, as the first flush of spring bursts into view and we bid farewell to the cold weather, but there's often a sunny soundtrack waiting to put that extra bounce into our step. The laidback Jack Johnson did the job last year, and Jason Mraz could well do the same in 2006.
Like Johnson, Mraz deals in fun, happy, laidback pop, and Geek In The Pink is pretty representative of his oeuvre. It shouldn't work at all in fact, with a cheesy backing track and some pretty horrific attempts at rapping by Mraz. The lyrics too aren't going to win any awards ("I may be skinny at times but I'm fat full of rhymes, pass me the mic and I'm a grab at it") but the song has a self-deprecating air about it that's actually quite charming.
If you don't take it too seriously, then Geek In The Pink could well become your new soundtrack for the warmer months to come. It may not change the world, but it'll make you smile. And sometimes, that's all you can ask of a song.
