Jay Sean - Stolen (Relentless)

UK release date: 18 October 2004
Jay Sean - Stolen

It's a difficult thing to follow up a single as good as Eyes On You, particularly when you're operating in what is very much a niche market. There's not a lot mainstream about a young British Asian making moves in the U.K music industry. What's more difficult is when your music isn't able to be pigeonholed.

That doesn't seem to be a problem for Jay Sean, certainly not in Stolen. Beginning with a female Indian songstress it doesn't take long for Jay's smooth vocals to kick in. It's a bit of a boy band-ish track, kind of like the Bollywood musical of Westlife. Scarily it's effective as the prominent vibe that comes across is R&B, not cheesy pop.

Of course if the original is a bit too bland for you there's the token Rishi Rich remix on the b-side, which unfortunately doesn't really live up to the original. The remix is a bit uneasy, sped up vocals over a more bhangra like beat - it doesn't quite have the same impact. This is definitely worth the purchase for the original alone.
