Vying with Bella Union this year for the title of 'coolest record label of the year', Transgressive have promoted a string of excellent acts this year, of which Jeremy Warmsley is probably the most idiosyncratic.

A world away from the more traditional indie guitar sound of labelmates such as The Subways or Battle, Warmsley is a compelling listen - if you can imagine Rufus Wainwright raised on a diet of electronica, you're probably somewhere near. Dirty Blue Jeans opens with a woozy string section and piano line, before Warmsley's compelling voice giving a mysterious air to lines like "we kissed all night in my brother's old bedroom".

It's impossible to turn your attention away from it, and in a nice touch, the single comes in a limited edition of 500 with a specially designed denim cover. Another gem from Transgressive then.
