What U Gonna Do, the new single from Jim Noir, is a taster of what to expect from his forthcoming eponymously titled second album. On first listen, it suggests that he's dispensing of the trappings of too much novelty in favour of focusing on swoonsome '60s-style psychedelic pop instead.
This is probably for the best - the cheekiness of his previous efforts was all good fun over previous summers but, like all good novelties, as a long-term career plan it probably wouldn't have stood the test of time. Instead, backwards guitars, 60s organs and his sugar sweet lyrics offer a new (sort of) maturity that we won't grow out of quite so quickly.
The result is a song that promises much: summer harmonies and hazy memories to savour as the sunshine creeps up.
