Voted by Time Magazine as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world. Six million albums sold worldwide. Number one singles in seven different European countries. A recent show at Shepherds Bush Empire that sold out in 30 minutes. A bucket load of Latino Grammies...I could go on. It's all rather impressive, this Juanes character has a lot to answer for.
La Camisa Negra (which Google tells me means The Black Shirt) is Juanes' latest single. For a man who is fervently praised, however, we might expect something a little, no, far better than this. It's like being promised a culinary banquet only to be served a few chicken nuggets. Now don't get me wrong, I love chicken nuggets as much as the next man, but when you're expecting the real deal, La Camisa Negra is desperately disappointing. It just sounds like the sort of happy-go-lucky, appeal-to-everyone-blandness you could hear in any European cafi or hotel lobby.
It's not all tears though, the powerful chorus has a rather catchy vocal melody to it, but by and large there's very little to excite. Perhaps if I could garner even the least bit of understanding from Juanes' Spanish warbling this might be a little more engaging. As it stands, I can't, and it definitely isn't.
