Julie Thirteen are like The Cure by the way of the Smashing Pumpkins with other influences derived primarily from classic eighties non-conformist bands like Depeche Mode and Joy Division. Don't expect any heavy, monolithic power-metal riffs or monstrously incomprehensible hard rock groans here, but delicate sounds that can range from sonic effects to momentary slices of subtle ambience instead.
This four track EP from the promising Scottish six piece is an intelligent and creative piece of work. It is lyrically fascinating and musically brooding. Final track To The Ends Of The Earth has more of an eighties rock sound akin to the likes of The Cult. With hypnotic tones and compelling melodies, Julie Thirteen have a serious and distinctive musical identity.
Produced by two members of fellow Scottish band Aereoprogramme, With Tired Hearts has enough rock riffery to satisfy the broad minded rock fan while being completely alluring for any music fan with decent taste.
