Katie Melua - Belfast/My Aphrodisiac Is You (Dramatico)

Just over a year ago, Katie Melua was an unknown teenager enrolled at music school. Now, thanks to the combined forces of Mike Batt and Radio 2, she's one of the biggest selling artists in the country. This download-only single features two songs from her phenomenally successful album Call Off The Search and a special Christmas track.

For someone who's often slated for performing too many cover versions, Melua should point to Belfast as proof of her songwriting talent - it's a lovely, string laden ballad which shows off her voice to its best advantage. My Aphrodisiac Is You is a more upbeat number - Melua's voice isn't quite as convincing here, but the piano playing on this track is just superb. Have Yourselves A Merry Little Christmas is Melua's take on the ever popular standard and is pleasant enough, even if you'll never listen to it after December 27th.

If Ms Melua's music leaves you cold (and she seems to have divided the nation like no other singer since Dido) then they'll be nothing here to convince you to click the download button - but for the millions of people who love her, this makes a nice Christmas present to yourself.
