Surely not another dance-rock-disco-punk-new-new-wave number, surely? There seems to be an endless conveyer belt of soundalike and lookalike bands who recycle the same old riffs, the same old chords, the same old basslines, the same old effective use of hi-hat, to the point where a once-thrilling genre has been drowned in its own malaise (oooh, sounds painful).
There's nothing really wrong with Not Anymore, other than that it is of a style that has just become so over-familiar that it has become, predictably, stale. Yes, it's clean, crisp and catchy, but so was Franz Ferdinand's album, last year. So was/is material by The Rapture, Radio 4, We Are Scientists, The Bravery, Interpol, and many, many, many, many (repeat ad infinitum) more.
It just seems like any band with a sharp set of suits and skinny ties, an abundance of eyeliner and a passion for welding jagged, angular guitars to disco rhythms can make it these days, as if this is the essential recipe for success. One hopes that something bold and refreshing comes along to shake the dance-rock genre out of its self-inflicted stupor. The KBC ain't it.
