Awful band name. Promising band. This Manchester based quartet have prompted comparisons to Radiohead. On the evidence of this, they are nonsensical. Hold That Gun is built around a fucking solid rhythm section, with frenetic drums and a swirling, hypnotic bassline and beautiful vocal harmonies.
The song is marred somewhat by the vocal work of Oli Bayston who slightly irritatingly sounds at points like he isn't really trying. His voice is beautiful however, idiosyncratic, and it definitely grows on the listener with time.
B-side No Solemn Request is enchantingly haunting. Throwing elements of disco, techno and Interpol-esque guitar work into a melting pot of ghostly dissonance, bringing it to the boil with pounding drums and splintered synth effects. Keith have work to do, but are clearly a very promising young band.
