They may be vying with The Automatic for the title of worst new band name of the year, yet Keith look set to continue Manchester's rich tradition of producing outrageously talented bands. With a forthcoming guest spot on superstar in waiting Lily Allen's debut album, Back There shows just what they can produce on their own terms.
They certainly have the Mancunian template off pat - there's a feeling of wistful melancholia throughout, the type that Elbow and Doves do so well while the guitar line is reminiscent of Johnny Marr at his peak. It may not be the most original sound you'll hear all year, but there's a lovely nagging feel to the chorus that soon sneaks up on you when you least expect it.
Collectors of unusual cover versions are also advised to check out the B-side, a rendition of Sebastien Tellier's extraordinary La Ritournelle - Keith make a surprisingly good effort of recreating the majestic atmosphere of the original, although they understandably don't quite top Tellier's version. A decent listen from a band that may well surprise you.
