Kelis - Milkshake (Virgin)
release date: 5 January 2004
Kelis - Milkshake

"The sexy debut single from her forthcoming album" says the blurb, and one listen to Milkshake will leave you in no position to argue. Written by Pharell Williams, produced by N*E*R*D and sung by one of hip-hop's finest female singers, Milkshake certainly has the lot.

The grinding bassline and innuendo-littered lyrics ("My milkshake brings all to the yard / I could teach you but I'd have to charge") make for what is a dirty track. Not dirty in the trashy Christina Aguilera way, but dirty in a way that's bound to have you shaking your booty.

Kelis seems to have undertaken a change in direction from angst-heavy to damn right provocative, with a little help from the some of the best producers around (Richard X and N*E*R*D). And I don't hear anyone complaining.
