All hail the soca king! No, not the game we Brits used to play with a stuffed pig's bladder... Kevin Lyttle is perhaps one of the first importers of Caribbean soca hybrid music to be successful in the UK mainstream.
He's fused this with - so the blurb says - Jamaican dancehall, American hip-hop and R&B. Although I'm sure this is right, when you mix all these things together it often becomes difficult to notice.
What comes across most in this is Lyttle's homeland's soca rhythms, which are damn funky and difficult to resist. Although apart from that it's rather run-of-the-mill, I've been living with this one for a while and it's definitely a grower.
