There are supporting bands that never surpass their main act. Kid Harpoon, however, enticed his audience with his bohemian rock whilst on tour with The Kooks, <Jamie T, Larrikin Love and Fionn Regan, leaving the stage to cheers from scarlet-faced youths calling for his return.
Fortunately they didn't have to wait that long. Kid Harpoon's First EP showcases a wide range of influences and is an illustration of his skilled musicianship. Every song has its on personal story and edge, from the bohemian gypsy-rock of Fifty Seven to the misty depth of The Water. Throw in his backing band The Powers That Be and you have a winning concept that stands out like a sore thumb in a saturated music industry of fast food-esque produced bands.
Kid Harpoon signed with XL Recordings last year, after the label noticed the singer/songwriter's artistic talents and hearty energy on stage. Now he has made his craft known both to the mainstream, and the underground crowd that has been eagerly awaiting this release. A stalwart from London's venue Nambucca, he already has an archive of over two hundred songs to choose from for his forthcoming album.
With an attention to lyrics idealized in the catchy Milkmaid or introspective As It Always Was, this is distinctive pop writing that incorporates both rock and lo-fi guitar strumming. Kid Harpoon is an entertaining folkster that we will woon be spoonfed, so check him out before fame chews him up. Brilliant!
