It can surely only be a matter of time before King Creosote is a name familar to a great many more people than to just those in the 'know'. His KC Rules OK album is one of the unheralded gems of 2005 and this single one of the highlights from that release.
A laid back ballad sung with the Scottish twang and wit we've come to expect - just listen to the way he sings "You gave up on Easter for your vegan charms" - Not One Bit Ashamed is beautiful and melodic at the same time. And when a chorus of horns are added to the arrangement towards the end it really could not get much better.
There is also a refreshing change in the story behind the song in that it is the girl in this boy-girl relationship who is the lazy one with all of the bad habits and who seemingly couldn't give a toss despite KC's efforts and sacrifices in trying to keep the relationship going. Melancholy stuff and here's hoping it gets the radio play it deserves.
