The prolific King Creosote (Kenny Anderson) has grabbed plenty of column inches in the broadsheets of late. One of the prime movers of the Fife 'Fence' collective, his K.C. Rules OK album has recently been reissued with new booklet notes by Ian Rankin, no less, one of his most fervent admirers.

678 is doubtlessly released to promote this, and is an ideal introduction to his sound, drifting in with a lazily strummed guitar and airy piano tinklings. Then Anderson's vocal comes in, softly deprecating lyrics that find a little more resolution in the chorus. Gradually the music builds, the chorus asserting itself with gorgeous harmonies and instrumentation, the lilting "might just get by" refrain a memorable trademark.

Anderson's music is an interesting and involving mix of pop and folk sensibilities, atmospheric and curiously uplifting. With any luck this song will propel more listeners in the direction of his latest fine opus.
