I wonder whether Olof Dreijer and Karin Dreijer Andersson, known
collectively as The Knife, have a Sony Bravia television? It was their
song, Heartbeats, covered beautifully by Jose Gonzalez, that featured
in the advert with the coloured bouncing balls for the aforementioned
product. So they could certainly afford one with the royalties from that,
and Gonzalez' single release, alone.
If Heartbeats was chalk, this single, the title track from the Swedish
brother-sister duo's upcoming fourth album Silent Shout, could fairly be
described as cheese. Whereas Heartbeats was a light and breezy serenade, this is
brooding, bassy, dance-fuelled electronica with more than a hint of menace
about it.
From the freak-like character on the single cover to the manipulated
vocals featured in the song, this is pure evil. The band describe the Silent
Shout title as; "Like when you dream and really want to scream something and
nothing comes out," and it is a feeling the former Swedish Grammy winners
have got across perfectly.
