Pre- and post-nu metal titans Korn return on a new record label and as a quartet following the high-profile departure of guitarist Brian "Head" Welch. While Head left to pursue his new-found Christian beliefs, some would say that the remaining quartet have sold their soul to the Devil by enlisting production team The Matrix (who have worked with such not-very-credible "rock" acts as Avril Lavigne and, erm, Hilary Duff) to help out on their new album, See You On The Other Side.
The good news is that there are no signs of Korn becoming a crappy pop act just yet. Twisted Transistor, whilst not being as dark nor ominous as material from last album Take A Look In The Mirror, is still a thumping rocker with squirming guitars, a banging drumbeat and one of those melodies that burrows itself into your memory without you realising.
The overall effect is that this was made for the heavy rock dancefloor, with the only downside being that with the drums turned up so high in the mix, Korn's calling card bass rumble is practically indiscernible. Let's hope that Fieldy's doomier-than-thou bass lines are more prominent on See You On The Other Side but Twisted Transistor is still a strong appetite whetter.
